Daimler has once again let the all-new 2018 Mercedes E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet parade in front of the eager spy photographers. LATEST PHOTOS AND INFO.
The coupé variant of the Mercedes E-Class is still being tested extensively, but camouflage has been reduced to the minimum. The Cabriolet is still wearing fake body panels meant to conceal its suave lines. In appearance, there will be few surprises at the unveiling, with familiar design cues lifted, as expected, from the C-Class Coupe and S-Class Coupe.
Under the hood we find alongside the turbo four cylinder engine, the new in-line six-cylinder unit that has replaced the old V6. This will also be the first time the Coupé and the Cabriolet will also get the full Mercedes-AMG treatment. In that case, as in the recently unveiled Mercedes-AMG E 63 sedan, a 612 bhp 4.0 V8 biturbo should find its way into the engine compartment.
The new Mercedes E-Class Coupe and Convertible will take a whole new direction, moving upmarket – closer to the BMW 6 Series. The new Coupe is no longer based on the C-Class, but on the longer wheelbase version of the MRA platform, shared with the regular E-Class. We expect an official unveiling in Geneva, next March.
